I sometimes go up to Namsan Tower to enjoy the cool breeze and the panoramic view. This time, I found a traditional Korean restaurant near Namsan. That place is Mokmyeoksanbang’s Namsan Tower branch. I visited there this past February after finishing work in Myeongdong. My friend and I wanted to have dinner somewhere quiet and serene. When I actually went there, it had exactly the atmosphere I’d imagined. It’s a place that both Koreans and foreign tourists would enjoy. This is an honest review based on my own experience.

Are all traditional Korean restaurants in Seoul expensive?
High-end traditional Korean restaurants in Gangnam, Gwanghwamun, and Insadong are naturally expensive. They offer a wide variety of side dishes and excellent service. Some even serve set menus.
However, there are other options in Seoul. You don’t have to spend a fortune. If you want to enjoy authentic Korean cuisine that’s great value for money, head straight to Mokmyeoksanbang. If you’re looking for more affordable restaurants near City Hall or Gwanghwamun, check out my other post, “Local Lunch in Seoul at Gwanghwamun and Jonggak (Paid for Myself).”
Directions to MokmyeokSanbang’s Namsan Tower Branch
MokmyeokSanbang has two locations near Namsan. I visited the Namsan Tower branch, so I’ll provide directions based on that location.
Take Exit 3 from Myeongdong Station (Line 4). Head toward the Namsan Cable Car. Walk uphill for about 10 minutes. You’ll arrive at the cable car station. But you’re not there yet. You’ll need to walk another 5 to 10 minutes along the Namsan Trail. I’ve attached a Google Map below to help you find the exact route.
You can also use Exit 1 at Hoehyeon Station (Line 4). Just walk in the same direction toward the Namsan Cable Car.
Here are two personal tips from me
- If walking is difficult for you, just take a taxi. Just ask the taxi driver to drop you off at the Namsan Cable Car.
- If getting there feels too complicated, don’t worry. There’s another location in front of Sungshin Women’s University before you go up the Namsan Cable Car. You can go there instead.
Business hours are from 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM daily. This isn’t a problem if you’re planning to have lunch. However, if you’re visiting in the evening, please be careful. Last orders are at 6:50 PM. Please make sure to arrive on time!
The Atmosphere at Mokmyeoksanbang
When you arrive here, you’ll see a beautiful traditional Korean house. In Korean, it’s called a “daegwol.” This refers to the grand houses where the Yangban aristocracy lived during the Joseon Dynasty. You’ll get exactly that feeling.
Go up the stairs and enter through the entrance. The staff will greet you warmly. You’ll see a kiosk on one side. Just order whatever you’d like to eat. Once you’ve placed your order, head into the inner room and find a comfortable seat.

I sat by the window. The view of the trees on Namsan Mountain outside was absolutely lovely. The quiet, serene atmosphere was the best part. It’s a great place to visit when the weather is nice. I especially recommend going there right now.
When your food is ready, they’ll call your number. Just go up and pick up your tray. This is a self-service restaurant. The same applies after you finish eating. Please clear your table. Place your empty bowls and trays in the return zone. At this point, try saying “I enjoyed my meal” or “Thank you” to the staff in Korean. You’ll be a truly wonderful traveler!
Great Value Menu Items (What I Ordered)
My friend and I ordered the Bulgogi Bibimbap (12,500 KRW) and the Pork Ssam Bibimbap (13,000 KRW), respectively.
The Bulgogi Bibimbap comes in a traditional brass bowl with rice and meat neatly arranged together. The vegetables for mixing in are served on a separate plate. If there are any vegetables you don’t like, you can pick them out before mixing. I’m sure anyone visiting Seoul already knows how to eat bibimbap! If you’re not sure, please leave a comment below, and I’ll explain in detail. Haha.

The Pork Wrap Rice Bowl comes with spicy stir-fried pork, rice, and fresh vegetables for wrapping. Place a piece of pork on a leaf of lettuce or napa cabbage. Add a little rice and ssamjang, then wrap it up and enjoy.

If you’d prefer beef, the restaurant offers a signature dish: the 1++ Hanwoo Yukhoe Bibimbap (14,500 KRW). It features the highest grade of Hanwoo beef. The dish comes with raw beef (yukhoe) tossed in a special sauce. Just mix it with the rice, just like you would with bulgogi bibimbap. I plan to try this dish on my next visit.
Here’s an extra tip
In addition to food, this place offers a variety of traditional drinks, such as Ssanghwa-cha, jujube tea, schisandra tea, Sujeonggwa, and Sikhye. When I visited, the people at the table next to me weren’t eating. They were just ordering drinks and using the space like a café. If you’re already full, ordering just a drink is a great option. If you’re looking for other hanok-style cafés near Myeongdong, check out my guide, “Reasons to Recommend Ikseon-dong Hanok Cafés (Seoul Coffee & Silladang).”
Today, I’ve written an honest review of Mokmyeoksanbang’s Namsan Tower branch, located near Namsan. Namsan Tower is a must-visit for foreign tourists visiting Seoul. If you’re hungry after touring Namsan Tower or want to enjoy high-quality Korean food at a great value, I highly recommend this place. I hope you have a wonderful trip, enjoying delicious Korean food to your heart’s content in a quiet atmosphere right in the heart of Seoul.
