No more waiting! Use Seoul Real-Time Congestion right now

There are various types of convenience systems provided by Seoul. Today, I am writing a post about Seoul Real-Time Congestion. The reason I am introducing this system is that when I traveled to other countries, most tourist attractions were so crowded that I couldn’t properly sightsee or experience anything. I wrote this post hoping that travelers visiting Seoul would not experience such inconvenience. I also use this system before I leave whenever I go to places like Seongsu-dong, Hongdae, or Gangnam in Seoul. So, let’s get started right away!

Introduction to the Seoul Real-Time Congestion System

Seoul is a complex city home to 10 million people. However, if you live in Seoul, you rarely feel a sense of inconvenience. This is because diverse and sophisticated systems have been established. An environment has been created to allow citizens to live comfortably by utilizing various real-time information, such as convenient public transportation systems like subways and buses, and safety systems like CCTV.

Among these, Seoul Real-Time Congestion is a convenient system that provides real-time congestion information for 120 major areas in the form of a webpage, allowing anyone—whether a Seoul resident or a traveler visiting Seoul—to check it. I have also bookmarked this webpage, and whenever I meet friends, I check to see if the place is crowded before heading to the meeting spot.

Congestion Level Display Methods

  • Leisure (Green): There are not many people, so you can freely look around and move around. If the area you want to visit is green, it is the perfect time to take photos.
  • Moderate (Yellow): As the name suggests, the crowding is moderate. This is the level of congestion you typically experience in Seoul.
  • Congested (Orange): You can often see this color in the hot spots I mentioned earlier, such as Seongsu-dong, Gangnam, and Hongdae. You can also see this color around 6 PM because there are many office workers leaving work in commercial districts.
  • Very Congested (Red): If this color appears, I recommend you reconsider visiting that area. Since this color appears when there are a lot of people and the congestion level is high, I personally recommend changing your plans to a different location.

Advantages of the Seoul Real-Time Congestion System

The first advantage of Seoul Real-Time Congestion system is its prediction system. By utilizing data on past patterns and current movement trends, AI predicts congestion levels for the next 12 hours and displays them on a graph. If you have plans for dinner tonight, it is incredibly convenient to know in advance whether your destination will be crowded at that time.
The second advantage is that you don't have to wait. I frequently visit areas like Seongsu-dong, Yeonnam-dong, and Euljiro, and I used to always have to wait in line at popular restaurants and cafes because they were always packed with people. However, since discovering Seoul Real-Time Congestion system, I can see in real-time whether my destination is crowded or not, which has allowed me to wait a little less. For travelers visiting Seoul, every minute and second is precious, so waiting to get into a popular restaurant or cafe must feel like a waste. This system can help alleviate that issue, at least to some extent. If you are planning a visit to Euljiro, check out "Chungmuro grilled fish near Myeongdong Station - Paid for myself."

Here is a tip from me!

If you are traveling in Seoul, I recommend installing and using Naver Maps or Kakao Maps instead of Google Maps. They include parts of the congestion prediction system I introduced today, and they offer much better performance than Google Maps for detailed navigation in Seoul. Recently, while walking near Anguk Station, a foreign family asked for directions to Ikseon-dong, showing me Google Maps on their phones. So, I used Naver Maps on my phone to guide them to the area. As this illustrates, it is recommended to use Naver Maps or Kakao Maps when you want to know the exact location and detailed directions.

Making the Most of Your 2026 Seoul Trip

Today, I have written a post about Seoul Real-Time Congestion, one of Seoul’s convenient systems. I take pride in the fact that Seoul is one of the cities with more things to see, experience, and eat than any other country or city in the world. However, it is also a city where crowds gather and waiting is frequent.

If you fully utilize the system I introduced today, you will be able to ride the Namsan Tower Cable Car at your leisure, take the perfect “life shot” at Bukchon Hanok Village, and enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee in the trendy Seongsu-dong.
